US President Donald Trump escalated his tone towards Iran, after Washington received the Iranian response to the American proposal to end the war and open a new negotiating path, considering the response “completely unacceptable,” and accusing Tehran of practicing a policy of “procrastination and deception” for decades.
Trump wrote in a post on the “Truth Social” platform: “I just read the response of the so-called ‘representatives’ of Iran. I do not like it — it is completely unacceptable!”
In another, more severe post, Trump launched a broad attack on the Iranian leadership and previous American administrations, considering that Iran has been “playing with the Americans and the world for 47 years” through a policy of “postponing, postponing, postponing.”
Trump said that the Iranians “made their biggest gains” when former US President Barack Obama came to power, adding that Obama “was not only good to them, but he was great to them,” as he put it.
Trump accused the previous US administration of having “abandoned Israel and the allies” and given Iran “a new and strong life,” noting that hundreds of billions of dollars and $1.7 billion in cash “were transported to Tehran by planes and bags.”
He added: “The Iranians could not believe their luck. They had never seen money like this before and they will never see anything like it again,” considering that Obama was “the weakest and worst American president,” before he also attacked former President Joe Biden.
Trump also accused Iran of killing Americans with explosive devices and suppressing internal protests, saying that Tehran “recently killed 42,000 unarmed demonstrators,” adding: “They were laughing at us… but they won’t laugh anymore.”
Trump’s statements came hours after reports revealed that Iran had delivered its official response to the American proposal through mediators, including conditions related to gradually opening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the blockade on Iranian ships and ports, in addition to arrangements related to the nuclear file.
At a time when Washington has not issued a detailed official position on the Iranian response, Trump’s statements reflect the amount of escalating tension within the US administration regarding the negotiation process, amid fears of the collapse of diplomatic efforts and a return to military escalation in the region.
