In a remarkable escalation in the debate between Damascus and Hezbollah, the Syrian Ministry of Interior re-published its statement regarding the dismantling of a cell that it said was affiliated with the party inside Syrian territory, accompanied by pictures of the cell members who were arrested during the recent security campaign.
The Ministry explained that among those arrested was “the person directly responsible for the assassination file” in the cell, who was supervising on the ground the development of plans and setting of targets, according to what was stated in the statement.
It also revealed that the specialized units seized an integrated military arsenal in the possession of the cell members, which included explosive devices prepared for detonation, “RPG” launchers with their charges, in addition to automatic rifles and quantities of hand grenades and various ammunition.
The republishing of the statement comes after Hezbollah categorically denied these accusations, considering them “false,” which reflects the escalation of media and political tension between the two parties.
These developments indicate a stage of escalation in the mutual discourse, amid ambiguity surrounding the background and timing of the issue, at a time when security files overlap with sensitive regional balances.
