The Spanish court ends the case on the death of Liverpool striker Jota

After completing investigations and examining the evidence, a Spanish court issued a ruling ruling that there was no criminal responsibility in a traffic accident that claimed the lives of Portuguese player Diogo Jota and his brother Andres Silva.

The tragic accident occurred on June 3, 2025 in the province of Zamora, northwestern Spain. Investigators determined that the Lamborghini was traveling too fast, and while trying to overtake another vehicle on the A-52, one of its tires exploded, causing it to hit the center divider and catch fire.

After examining the evidence from the accident site and information provided by traffic accident experts, the region’s Supreme Court of Justice decided that no criminal proceedings could be taken in relation to the death of the two brothers.

In a statement to “The Athletic” newspaper, a source from the Supreme Court of Justice of Castile and León said: “The Court of First Instance in Puebla de Sanabria rejected the case last November after evaluating the documentary evidence in the file, in particular the expert reports issued by the Traffic Unit of the Civil Guard.”

The same source added: “Also, dropping criminal prosecution does not prevent the affected parties from filing a civil lawsuit to demand what they deem appropriate.”

It is noteworthy that “Jota” was returning to England in preparation for the start of the new season with his team, Liverpool, after doctors recommended that he avoid traveling by air after undergoing a medical operation.
