The company “NRD LLC” revealed a revolutionary innovation: a unique solid-state nuclear battery capable of continuous operation for more than a hundred years without any human intervention or periodic maintenance, which is a qualitative leap in the world of energy sources with limited consumption.
The new battery is called NBV, and its operation depends on the radioactive element nickel-63. The battery converts the energy released from radioactive decay into electrical energy using “petavoltaic” technology. This makes it different from regular batteries that store energy, as this battery acts as a continuous power generator.
The battery has a completely solid and compact design, ensuring its long-term safety and stability. Its power ranges from 5 nanowatts to 500 nanowatts, with a voltage between 1 and 20 volts, making it ideal for powering devices that consume very little power.
According to the company’s statements, the battery can operate for more than a hundred years, which significantly reduces the need for maintenance or replacement, especially in hard-to-reach locations.
Applications of this technology are promising and diverse, and include remote sensors, environmental monitoring systems, precision industrial equipment, as well as implantable medical devices and space missions.
The company believes that this innovation will contribute to the emergence of a new generation of sustainable energy sources with long lives, especially in sectors that require high reliability and difficult operating conditions.
