American billionaire Elon Musk believes that the WhatsApp application, owned by Meta, is untrustworthy, commenting on a lawsuit filed against the application.
The owner of the “X” platform advised his followers through his official account to rely on the “X” application for correspondence and voice and video calls, stressing its security.
For his part, Telegram founder Pavel Durov joined the discussion, saying in a post on “X” that “WhatsApp encryption may be the largest consumer deception in history.”
Durov confirmed that, contrary to its claims, “WhatsApp” reads users’ messages and shares them with third parties,” while “Telegram” has never and will never do that.
These statements come against the backdrop of accusing “WhatsApp” of leaking conversations to “external parties and applications,” after a class-action lawsuit was filed against the “Meta” company in the US Federal Court of California, accusing it of allowing external application developers and analytics companies to access the content of the text messages of millions of users without their knowledge or consent.
Prosecutors claim that companies such as Amazon, Google, and others have obtained data on some messages.
The accusations also include storing message texts on developer servers for several months after deleting them from WhatsApp, and using external artificial intelligence tools to analyze users’ feelings in private messages.
On the other hand, Meta company categorically denied these accusations, and confirmed that all messages are protected by full encryption between both parties.
