A report specialized in technology revealed a change in the way storage spaces are dealt with, indicating that the process of “partitioning” or dividing the hard disk, which was common in the past, is no longer necessary at the present time due to several technical and practical considerations.
These considerations can be summarized in five main reasons, including that partitioning no longer improves disk performance as it did previously, especially with the spread of solid-state drives (SSDs), which rely on a different working mechanism than old mechanical disks.
Modern operating systems, such as Windows 11, offer advanced tools for managing files and making backup copies, which reduces the need to partition the disk for the purpose of protecting data.
The report also stated that partitioning may sometimes lead to the loss of unused storage space in specific sections, while another section becomes full, which limits flexibility of use. Furthermore, cloud storage technologies and software solutions currently available have made organizing and retrieving files simple without the complexities of manual partitioning.
