From stadiums to courts... Get to know the leaders of sports who have been brought down by corruption

Under the judicial and regulatory spotlight, sports corruption cases are back in the news globally, as accusations of bribery, embezzlement, and abuse of power pursue a number of prominent figures who held leadership positions in prestigious sports institutions.

The issues raised include complex files related to granting the rights to host world championships, sponsorship and marketing contracts, in addition to suspicious commissions that spoiled player transfer deals and the establishment of huge sports projects. These investigations, with the participation of international bodies, resulted in the downfall of names that were considered a “red line” in the world of sports, and some of them were sentenced to imprisonment or permanent deprivation from any sporting activity.

These events shed light on the legal weaknesses in the internal systems of international federations, prompting many of them to launch large-scale reform initiatives to enhance transparency and integrity, amid growing popular calls to clean stadiums of the financial “mafia” that distorted the sporting spirit and turned the game into an illicit trade.
