Al-Hajjar removes obstacles to the movement of trucks to secure immediate supplies of goods

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed Al-Hajjar, directed instructions to the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces and to the governors, each in his region, to do what is necessary to facilitate the movement of trucks on Saturday night and throughout Sunday, with the aim of facilitating the transportation of necessary goods arriving at the port of Beirut and distributing them to all regions.

This measure comes within an integrated plan coordinated with the concerned parties, with the aim of ensuring proper implementation, achieving the public interest, and avoiding any logistical difficulties that could affect the availability of basic goods in the markets.

The decision of the Minister of the Interior comes within the framework of the precautionary measures taken by the government in recent hours, due to the rapid regional developments and military escalation in the region, and the concern this has raised among citizens regarding the movement of supplies and basic goods.

The Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, had held an emergency meeting in the government palace, devoted to following up on general preparedness, stressing that “the stock of basic materials is sufficient for months,” with an emphasis on “preventing panic in the markets.” Coordination meetings also took place in the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Social Affairs to raise the level of preparedness and ensure good management of any potential emergency.

In the same context, official calls have emerged to maintain the continuity of supply chains and avoid any logistical congestion, especially with regard to goods arriving at the port of Beirut, as it is “the main artery of import movement to various Lebanese regions.”

Accordingly, facilitating the movement of trucks represents part of a comprehensive plan to ensure the flow of goods and prevent any disruption in the markets, in light of the sensitive circumstances the region is witnessing.
