The famous digital streaming platform “Netflix” issued an official statement stating that it has stopped technical support for its application on a large number of old devices. This step comes within the company’s strategy to focus on developing advanced features that require modern operating systems and high levels of security.
The decision will affect a wide range of devices, including old smart TVs, video game consoles, and streaming devices manufactured before 2014. This means that users who own these devices will no longer be able to access movie and series content via the application installed on their devices after the specified date for the end of support.
The list of affected devices includes old models of televisions from companies such as Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic, in addition to old versions of Apple TV devices and the first generation of Roku players.
The platform justified this action by the inability of these old devices to keep up with new technologies required by interaction features, high broadcast quality, and modern security protocols to protect user data. The company advised subscribers affected by the decision to update their devices or use alternatives such as modern external streaming devices (Dongles) to ensure that they continue to enjoy Netflix services without any interruption.
