Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis announced on Sunday his support for imposing a ban on children under the age of 15 using social media, in light of a growing trend in a number of European countries towards adopting similar restrictions.
Countries such as Spain, Greece, Britain and France are considering tightening regulatory restrictions on the use of these platforms, due to growing concerns about their potential negative effects on children, after Australia was the first country to ban access to social media for individuals under the age of 16 last December.
Babis said in a video message that he posted on several of his social media accounts, today, Sunday, without providing additional details: “I support this because the experts I know say that it has great harm to children. We must protect our children,” according to what Reuters reported.
Later in the day, Karel Havlicek, First Deputy Prime Minister, told a TV talk show on CNN: that. that. Prima News reported that the Council of Ministers is seriously considering the proposal to impose this ban. He added that if the Council approves this matter, legislation will be proposed during the current year.
Spain and Greece last week proposed banning social media use by young people, as Europe takes a tougher stance on technology that some believe is designed to create addiction. (Arm News)
