Sudan: Launching an initiative to provide thousands of new jobs

Moatasem Ahmed Salih, Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare of Sudan, reported the allocation of forty thousand jobs in the public sector as part of rapid recovery plans, noting that two thousand of them have already been implemented in Khartoum State.

Saleh added that these job opportunities focus mainly on the basic sectors directly related to reconstruction efforts, such as: “carpentry, electricity, water and sanitation connections, restoration, and construction,” which are areas of urgent need in the states affected by the war.

He also pointed out that the lack of an “accurate database of poor families” as a result of the war, making the current focus on providing livelihood opportunities through various organizations, most notably the “Zakat Diwan,” in order to ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable groups, according to what was reported on the Sudanese “Al-Mashhad” website.
