Al-Zaidi said, while chairing a meeting at the Ministry of Oil to discuss the strategic plan to develop and increase oil production in Iraq for the period 2027-2030, that “Iraq’s oil production should be proportional to the size of its oil reserves and capabilities and the size of its population, enabling it to meet the needs of citizens and development requirements,” stressing the need to develop and rehabilitate infrastructure and export capabilities to match the expected increase in production.
By the end of 2025, Iraq’s production reached about 4.5 million barrels per day.
A press statement explained that Al-Zaidi “directed to increase production quantities from oil fields in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, expand exploration work and increase exploration blocks, in a way that works to achieve the plan’s goals and bring oil production to about 10 million barrels per day by 2030.”
He directed work, according to the statement, to invest fully in associated gas, in a way that contributes to meeting the local need for energy and reducing waste, leading to dispensing with its import.
He instructed the Ministry of Oil to prepare for holding an expanded conference to which major international oil companies would be invited, with the aim of attracting international investments, expertise and technologies, and contracting with them to implement exploration, production, development and export projects, in a way that strengthens Iraq’s position in the global energy market and supports its resources and economic capabilities.
