Former MP Nawaf al-Moussawi, who is responsible for the resources and borders file in Hezbollah, stated that the Lebanese army “does not control the area south of the Litani,” considering that “talk about the end of the first phase of the ceasefire contradicts reality.”
In an interview on Al-Mayadeen channel, Al-Moussawi explained that the file of “clearing the south of the Litani of weapons” is “a file that we have closed,” commenting on the positions of the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, and asked: “Why did no one ask about the Israelis’ refusal to deploy the Lebanese army defensively in the front villages?”
In the context of the confrontation with Israel, Al-Moussawi stressed that “Hezbollah did not impose an open war on Lebanon,” noting that the late Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah “was managing the support battle with very precise calculations and in doses.”
Regarding the possibility of the party’s intervention in the event of any American targeting of Iran, he said: “We cross the bridge when we reach it,” considering that “the American administration and Israel do not separate the arenas in the region from each other.”
Regarding the United States, Al-Moussawi believed that “Lebanon is under American occupation in every sense of the word,” noting that this reality “is not limited to Lebanon only.” He also accused American forces of landing military equipment at Beirut International Airport, considering this a “violation of the Civil Aviation Law.”
Regarding the regional issue, Al-Moussawi stated that “there may be an American military strike against Iran due to an error in calculations, but in doing so it will open a volcano in the region,” considering that “what restrains the American administration from striking Iran is its inability to answer the question: What comes after the strike?” He added that the United States “is capable of striking Iran, but it is not possible to overthrow Iran,” noting that “the American wants either to settle with Iran or to strike the regime.”
Al-Moussawi revealed “reliable sources,” as he put it, confirming that China has provided Iran with support that “enables it to deal efficiently with any attack,” stressing that “when Iran is independent in its decision, it is targeted by the West,” and reminding that the United States “has been seeking, since the victory of the Iranian revolution, to overthrow the regime.”
In a related context, Al-Moussawi announced that the House of Representatives “established the legal framework for reconstruction,” pointing out that Hezbollah and the Amal Movement “conducted a complete survey and procedural mechanism for giving aid.” He also said that Qatar “showed enthusiasm regarding the Lebanon issue and played a creative role in trying to break the isolation of Gaza,” noting that “matters with Saudi Arabia take more time, but we did not encounter any negativity.”
He added that the party observed “openness from Arab and Western countries with which it had not previously communicated to establish regular contacts with Hezbollah,” considering that “what the Israelis did not achieve in the field has been entrusted to forces in Lebanon to try to achieve it in politics.”
Al-Moussawi pointed out that the Lebanese state asked the American side to obtain military equipment, “but it was rejected,” pointing out that “the warehouses that the Lebanese army arrived at south of the Litani City included fillings for Kornet missiles,” stressing that “there is no mention in the current Lebanese budget of any item about arming the Lebanese army.”
Regarding the reconstruction file, Al-Moussawi said, “What is required is to hold an international conference for the reconstruction of Lebanon,” noting that “there are willing countries such as Algeria, Qatar, and perhaps Saudi Arabia,” stressing that “countries that are ready to provide assistance to Lebanon are sufficient for the Lebanese people’s need for reconstruction and more,” stressing that “no one morally accepts linking reconstruction to any political goal.” He added that President Aoun “expressed enthusiasm regarding the reconstruction file,” expressing hope that “the Prime Minister will approve Article 23 related to this file.”
