Apple issued an important warning to millions of iPhone owners, stressing the importance of updating the operating system to iOS 26 within the next six weeks, with the aim of preserving the security of devices and protecting them from serious vulnerabilities that threatened phones running older versions.

This warning comes after a series of security amendments that the company launched in mid-December, which addressed vulnerabilities that allowed for complex electronic attacks targeting the main browser of phones.

Analysts believe that this warning has not been issued in such a strong tone before, which makes this period crucial for iPhone users who are still using old versions of the system.

Last December, Apple released updates to address advanced security vulnerabilities in WebKit, a platform within the Safari browser that is used in many applications to handle content on the Internet. Although updates are available, many devices do not receive them due to users not updating, leaving millions of devices vulnerable.

The presence of these vulnerabilities in a major browser means that any attempt to browse malicious content could be exploited to access user data or control parts of the device, if updates are not installed.

It should be noted here that Apple added in the iOS 26.2 update more than 25 important security fixes, some of which were already available, but many users ignored the update, which prompted the company to stress the necessity of immediate upgrade.

According to reports, the six-week period is sufficient to update the majority of eligible iPhones to the iOS 26 system. Even before the release of the iOS 26.3 update expected soon, the reports advise users not to delay updating their devices, but rather to install iOS 26 as soon as it is available to obtain the necessary security patches, in addition to improved privacy features.

Among the features that future iOS updates will include is a new privacy setting that allows users to specify the location accuracy that telecommunications networks can use, reducing the possibility of device tracking via network towers and enhancing protection of sensitive location data.

This feature is similar to what some other platforms have provided on competing phones, and aims to give users more control over their privacy and personal data.

Based on the currently available information, the safest step for iPhone users is to update their devices to iOS 26 now, without waiting for future updates.

This includes rebooting the phone after the update to ensure that the security patches are fully activated.

It is also recommended to activate automatic updates in the system settings to receive security updates as soon as they are released, in order to avoid potential risks associated with old versions. (Erm News)
