In light of the difficult living conditions that are constantly worsening, and with the absence of any solutions on the horizon from the government, public administration employees are preparing to return to the streets again.
This move comes within the framework of an escalation announced by the Association of Public Administration Employees, which includes a comprehensive strike to be implemented tomorrow, Thursday, in various departments and official institutions, in protest against the government’s continued disregard for their legitimate demands.
The association describes this move as “necessary and urgent,” and it will be accompanied by a press conference to be held in the Al-Fanadqia building – Dekwaneh, where the association’s final position and the potential escalation steps it may take will be announced if official disregard continues and their demands are not met.
In this regard, Ibrahim Nahal, a member of the Association of Public Administration Employees, said in an interview with : “This move is only the beginning, as employees can no longer tolerate further procrastination and neglect by official bodies.”
Regarding the existence of division among employees regarding participation in the strike, Nahal explained that “disagreement is normal, there are those who support and those who oppose, and this reflects the nature of democratic union work, but standing against rights is problematic, because these rights are seized and not granted, and we are simply defending our rights.”
He also affirmed that “employees are fully aware of where their rights lie, and therefore participation tomorrow will be broad, and it must be built on the success of the strike, because our demands are directed to the concerned authority.”
He revealed that “the move scheduled for tomorrow is only the beginning of an escalating path, we have a series of upcoming moves, which may include sit-ins, demonstrations, an open strike, leading to functional and civil disobedience, and each step will be studied and implemented in its appropriate time.”
He added: “We are not strike enthusiasts, but rather we are employees who believe in work and public service, and we are keen on the continuity of the public facility, but we were forced to take this path after the official disregard for our legitimate demands was entrenched, and with the absence of any serious indications of response or even opening the door to dialogue, the move is not a desire but a necessity imposed by a crisis reality that ignores the dignity of the employee and his most basic rights.”
Regarding communication with official bodies, Nahal expressed his regret for the interruption of contacts at the present time, saying: “There was previous communication, but today there is no actual contact, we hope that the authority will move and reopen channels of dialogue again, because we do not want to stay on the street, but rather we seek fair solutions that guarantee the dignity of the employee and his rights.”
