A Possible New Deputy for Chouf, Disputes Within the Forces Regarding Deferred Appointments, and Questions About the Future of Decision-Making in the Party.
It is known that MP George Adwan intends to run his last election cycle in 2026, if the elections are held on time. The “Lebanese Forces” has begun its early preparations for the post-Adwan era by establishing the name of Jean-Michel Aoun as a potential candidate to succeed him, after his appointment as the party’s coordinator in the Chouf district starting in June 2026.
Aoun’s new appointment, which is supposed to take effect in about eight months, is considered a prior political promise from the “Forces” leadership to nominate him in place of Adwan in the parliamentary session following the 2026 elections, in a move aimed at preserving the popular base enjoyed by the current deputy, and at investing in the weight of the Aoun family and its social and political environment in Damour.
Information indicates that the decision to appoint Aoun constitutes a clear violation of the party’s internal regulations, as the executive body was not consulted in this appointment, which was passed in a manner described as “signing a blank check,” and the system does not allow for the approval of appointments with deferred implementation.
Thus, Jean-Michel Aoun becomes a “coordinator with deferred implementation,” in a precedent within the “Lebanese Forces” that combines prior political calculations and organizational overreach, and opens the door to questions about the decision-making mechanism within the party and the balance of power in the post-George Adwan era.
