On the 48th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Sayyed Musa al-Sadr and his companions Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoub and Sayyed Abbas Badr al-Din, the Vice President of the Supreme Shiite Islamic Council, Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, called for loyalty to the Imam’s approach through the liberation of the south, the return of its people, and the reconstruction of border villages, in addition to building a capable and just state that preserves the dignity of citizens.
Al-Khatib stressed that Imam al-Sadr formed a national, humanitarian, and Islamic project that combined the idea of the state, dialogue, and resistance, defended the disadvantaged, and demanded a just state that embraces all Lebanese, far from division and sectarianism.
He believed that Imam al-Sadr dealt with the Israeli threat as a threat to all of Lebanon, not to the south alone, and called for national resistance whose mission would be to protect the land and people, without weapons turning into a tool in internal conflicts.
Regarding internal affairs, Al-Khatib stressed that Al-Sadr’s vision was based on a state of citizenship, justice, and balanced development, considering that sectarian diversity is a source of wealth, while political sectarianism leads to discrimination, quotas, and the weakening of the state.
He called for strengthening national unity and activating dialogue among the Lebanese in the face of crises, stressing that restoring the thought of Imam al-Sadr does not mean crying over his absence only, but rather working to protect sovereignty, coexistence, and building an inclusive state for all its people.
