Writer Fadi Eid, in Al-Diyar newspaper, quoted a member of the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc, MP Ali Al-Miqdad, as recording a series of objections to the direction adopted by the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, in the negotiating path, indicating that these observations are not limited to the president’s opponents, but are also issued by some of his supporters.
Al-Miqdad revealed that the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc is expected to issue a statement commenting on the meeting that brought together Presidents Donald Trump and Joseph Aoun, provided that the statement expresses the party’s unified position “without any ambiguity.”
He considered that the presidential visit to Washington was not, in terms of form, appropriate for the President of the Lebanese Republic, and its content included, as he put it, inappropriate and offensive language towards Lebanon.
Regarding the effectiveness of diplomacy with the start of the implementation of the deployment phase in the experimental areas, Al-Miqdad wondered whether the Lebanese army’s entry into areas that were not originally under Israeli control could be considered an achievement.
He said that Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Zawtar al-Gharbiya, as well as the town of Fron, were not occupied, asking: “How can we talk about a successful experiment, when there was basically no occupation or withdrawal from the experimental areas?”
Al-Miqdad confirmed that the party supports, in principle, a comprehensive and complete Israeli withdrawal, without any scheduling or repositioning, pointing out that Trump, when asked about the Israeli withdrawal, talked about a proliferation, considering that he conveyed the Israeli position literally during his press conference.
He called for the withdrawal of the Israeli army without restrictions or conditions, within the framework of the agreement between the United States and Iran, pointing out that it is an agreement that does not include conditions or experimental areas, and that what is required is the implementation of a complete Israeli withdrawal.
Regarding talk about Lebanon’s return to the international map through President Aoun’s presence in Washington, Al-Miqdad downplayed the importance of what was achieved in the White House, considering that Lebanon was placed on “the map of international and Israeli dictates,” and he was surprised to describe the visit as successful for Lebanon and the Lebanese.
He wondered how much Lebanon benefited from the President of the Republic’s visit to Washington, explaining that he only noticed what he described as “insults and American words identical to Netanyahu’s words,” which do not reflect dealing with Lebanon as a free and independent country.
He added that what happened in Washington was not good, noting that he heard that a large number of Lebanese expressed their dissatisfaction with the way President Aoun was received, and with the words that were raised, as well as with the way of talking about Lebanon and the martyrs, without any position being issued by the President of the Republic.
Al-Miqdad called for reviewing the way international and local newspapers approached the presidential visit to Washington.
Regarding the words that were reported about Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri’s support for peace, Al-Miqdad confirmed that he did not hear any position of this kind issued by Berri, nor did the Speaker of Parliament or his office issue any position answering this issue.
He stressed that Berri is the most keen to respond, and has been following this file since its inception.
