X’s chief product officer, Nikita Peer, said the app was completely rebuilt from scratch, describing the project as “one of the largest engineering projects in the company’s history.” He added that the development process took more than a year, with the participation of a team that included about 12 engineers.
Bear explained that the update process has not yet been completed, as the company intends to add new features during the coming period, the most prominent of which is hosting voice conversations “Spaces,” in addition to improving the application’s performance on old phones.
He pointed out that rebuilding the application gives the development team the ability to launch new features at a faster pace, while acknowledging that there are some aspects that still need improvement, calling on users to send their feedback to contribute to the development of the application.
Bear revealed that the company is also working on a set of new features, including tools to interact with video clips, a built-in video editor, and improving the capabilities of the “Spaces” feature. The current version already includes a number of additions, including the custom content display feature (Custom Timelines) and others.
“X” confirmed that the new features will reach Android users before they are released to iPhones, in a change to an approach that many companies and applications have become accustomed to, which used to give priority to iPhone users.
“X” is betting on this strategy to enhance its spread in global markets, especially since the Android system accounts for the largest share of smartphone users in many countries, which may give the platform a greater opportunity to attract users by making the latest features available to them first.
