Although Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa officially rejected an American proposal to move against Hezbollah inside Lebanon, Israeli information revealed that the Syrian security services are preparing for possible interference in this file, and that plans are being formulated behind the scenes to carry out operations against the party when necessary.
According to a report by journalist Roi Kayes on the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation “Kan,” the Syrian security establishment is preparing for the possibility of getting involved in the Hezbollah issue inside Lebanon, despite the public statements made by Al-Sharaa and his official rejection of US President Donald Trump’s offer to move against the party in the territory of the neighboring country.
The report quoted a Syrian security source affiliated with the authorities as saying that plans against Hezbollah in Lebanon are taking shape out of the spotlight, and will be implemented if necessary.
The source said: “There is a gap between what is said in public and what is happening behind the scenes.”
He added that the instructions directed to the highest levels of the Syrian security establishment require action against any Hezbollah presence on the ground and thwarting it.
Recently, Trump said more than once that the Syrian president is the appropriate party to deal with Hezbollah in Lebanon instead of Israel.
Between the declared Syrian rejection and the security preparations that the source talks about, the information paints a picture of a double path in which Damascus avoids public commitment to the American proposal, while keeping the option of action against the party present on the table of its security services.
