Representative Jamil Al-Sayyid considered that the results of President Joseph Aoun’s visit to the United States will determine the course of the next stage in Lebanon, noting that the success of the visit is measured by its ability to achieve a complete and rapid Israeli withdrawal from the south, not by reproducing arrangements that keep the occupation in place.
In a post on the “X” platform, Al-Sayed said that President Aoun arrived in Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump and his senior aides, pointing out that his first meeting was with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who, according to his statement, praised “Aoun’s courage and the efforts of the Lebanese government to restore sovereignty, disarm Hezbollah, dismantle its terrorist infrastructure, and move towards peace,” without, according to Al-Sayed, addressing the issue of the Israeli occupation or withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
He added that Aoun will later meet with US Vice President J.D. Vance, before his upcoming meeting with President Trump, considering that the latter has the final decision on the files at hand.
Al-Sayyed believed that if the President of the Republic returned from Washington with a clear plan that would lead to a complete and rapid Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, this would be considered “saving the country,” calling on those objecting to acknowledge his success if this goal was achieved.
On the other hand, he warned that Aoun’s return with what he described as “the ill-fated framework agreement,” or with understandings that include conditions and promises that would keep Lebanon under occupation and make the Lebanese army “hostage to daily Israeli tests in the experimental areas,” would constitute, as he put it, “a setback from which there is no way out.”
