Members of the General Directorate of Civil Defense extinguished a fire that broke out inside the shelter of a 10-story residential building in the Bir al-Abd area in the southern suburb of Beirut, after they quickly intervened to evacuate the residents and control the fire.

The Department of Information and Public Relations at the General Directorate of Civil Defense explained, in a statement, that the officers worked to evacuate 18 citizens from the building to preserve their safety, in conjunction with carrying out rescue and firefighting operations.

Civil Defense personnel also treated a number of people who suffered from suffocation as a result of smoke inhalation. 7 cases were transferred to Bahman Hospital to receive treatment, while 8 people received the necessary first aid in the field.

The Directorate confirmed that the elements were able to control the fire and extinguish it completely, before taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the building and that there was no danger threatening the residents.

This intervention comes within the daily tasks carried out by the Civil Defense to respond quickly to residential building fires, especially those that break out in closed spaces such as shelters and warehouses, where rising smoke increases the risk of suffocation, which requires the immediate evacuation of buildings to maintain the safety of residents.
