The latest leaks revealed that Apple is developing the iPhone Air 2 with a set of notable improvements, most notably a larger battery and a dual rear camera, in a move aimed at addressing the most prominent criticisms that affected the first generation of the ultra-thin phone, especially with regard to battery life and photography capabilities.

According to a report published by the Emirati website “Erm News”, Apple intends to maintain the slim design that distinguishes the Air series, while introducing improvements that make the phone more balanced in terms of performance and daily use, which reflects the company’s adherence to this category instead of abandoning it.

Bigger battery

Leaks indicate that the phone will have a battery with a capacity of approximately 3500 mAh, compared to 3149 mAh in the current generation, i.e. an increase of approximately 11%.

Although the increase appears limited on paper, it may have a significant impact on daily use, especially if combined with improvements in energy efficiency.

The phone is also expected to operate with a 2nm A20 processor, which may provide higher performance with lower power consumption, which contributes to extending battery life beyond simply increasing capacity.

Dual rear camera

The expected improvements also include the addition of a second Ultra Wide rear camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels, in addition to the main camera, after Apple was satisfied with one camera in the first generation.

Observers believe that this step represents a direct response to the feedback of users who considered that the phone was less flexible in photography compared to other iPhone models, despite its relatively high price.

Also, some leaks indicate that Apple will redesign the internal Face ID system to provide space that allows the addition of the new camera without increasing the thickness of the device.

Maintaining the slim design

Combining a larger battery with an additional camera is an engineering challenge, given that the Air series is intended to provide the thinnest phone in the iPhone lineup.

The information indicates that Apple may adopt the Color Filter on Encapsulation technology developed by Samsung for OLED screens, which is a technology that allows reducing the thickness of the screen, which provides more internal space to add a higher capacity battery without affecting the dimensions of the phone.

Also, the device is expected to retain the titanium frame, with a new light violet color added to the color options.

Addressing the most prominent observations

These leaks indicate that Apple is moving to address the weaknesses that appeared in the first generation, rather than being satisfied with cosmetic updates.

The combination of a larger battery and a dual rear camera will enhance the iPhone Air 2’s ability to compete with other iPhone models, while maintaining its identity as one of the thinnest phones on the market.

According to current expectations, Apple may unveil the iPhone Air 2 during the first half of 2027, along with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, if it adheres to the launch schedule that the current leaks talk about.
