The Emirati website “Erm News” published a report in which it highlighted a new feature offered by the “WhatsApp” application, which allows the translation of messages directly within the application, in a step aimed at facilitating communication between users who speak different languages, while preserving the privacy of conversations.

According to the report, the feature enables users to translate individual messages, group messages, and channels from within the conversation itself, without the need to copy texts or use external translation applications.

To activate the feature, you can long press on the message and choose “Translate,” then select the desired language. Upon first use, the application requests the download of the appropriate language pack, so that it can later be translated even without a permanent Internet connection.

The report indicated that the most prominent feature of the feature is that it works locally on the device, as the translation is processed within the phone itself, which means that the content of the messages is not sent to the “WhatsApp” or “Meta” servers, in line with the full encryption system between the two parties and preserves the privacy of users.

He added that the feature is not limited to translating a single message, but rather allows, on some devices, to activate automatic translation of an entire conversation, so that new messages are translated immediately upon their arrival after choosing the appropriate language, with the possibility of stopping this feature at any time in the conversation settings.

The report pointed out that “WhatsApp” is gradually introducing the message translation feature, so it may not be available to all users or on various devices currently, calling for the application to be constantly updated to obtain new features as soon as they are launched.

The report confirmed that WhatsApp intends to gradually expand the list of supported languages, as part of its efforts to reduce language barriers and make communication between users around the world easier, without compromising data security or the need to use external applications.
