It is noteworthy that Microsoft already runs platforms such as LinkedIn and GitHub as wholly owned subsidiaries, a model that could be applied to Xbox.

The report also indicated that the new CEO of the gaming unit, Asha Sharma, who took over the position last February, intends to increase spending to accelerate the development of new games based on the company’s most prominent series, such as Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls.

The report added that Microsoft CEO Staia Nadella and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood initially agreed to increase spending on major game development during the next fiscal year, although the final budget has not yet been decided.

The report also indicated that the Xbox unit is preparing for massive layoffs of employees and a significant reduction in budgets, especially in the marketing sector, as part of the first major restructuring process since Sharma took over the leadership of the unit.
