On Thursday, Tehran condemned what it described as repeated US violations of the ceasefire, after the strikes that targeted areas in Bandar Abbas, considering that the recent attacks and threatening statements against Iran and some countries in the region constitute a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said that Tehran “strongly condemns the American military aggression against areas in Bandar Abbas,” which occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Baghaei considered that these actions against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty constitute a “flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter,” calling on the UN Security Council to fulfill its legal responsibility and hold the “American aggressors” accountable.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman referred to what he described as “continuous violations of the ceasefire” by the United States, especially the attack on commercial navigation in the Gulf region and free waters, in addition to the air attack on the southern regions of Iran during the past few days.

Baghaei stressed the determination of the Islamic Republic of Iran to take all necessary measures to defend national sovereignty over its entire territory, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also condemned the threatening statements made by American officials against Iran and some other countries in the region, expressing Tehran’s solidarity with the Sultanate of Oman, which he described as a “friendly and brotherly country.”

Baghaei said that threatening to “destroy” a member state of the United Nations, a state that has played a constructive, active and responsible role towards peace and security in the region, and for years has remained in the position of mediator in diplomatic operations, not only constitutes a violation of the principle of prohibiting the threat of use of force, but also represents a dangerous indicator of the normalization of breaking the law in international relations.

The Iranian positions come in light of the escalation of tension between Washington and Tehran, after American strikes targeted sites in Bandar Abbas, and the ensuing debate over violations of the ceasefire and the protection of navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The Omani role also stands out in the background of the scene, as one of the most prominent paths of regional mediation, which makes any threat to Muscat an additional element in expanding the circle of tension in a highly sensitive region.
