US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open “in any way,” in a position that reflects American tightening regarding navigation security, after recent military developments and American attacks that targeted sites in Iran on Monday.

In statements to reporters on board his plane during his visit to the Indian city of Jaipur, Rubio stressed that “the straits must be open, and they will be opened in any way, so they should remain open.”

In a related context, the US Secretary of State indicated that negotiations on drafting an agreement with Iran are still continuing, explaining that this process “may take a few days.”

Rubio’s statements come amid escalating tensions related to the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most prominent sea lanes for transporting oil in the world, and in light of accelerating diplomatic and military movements between Washington and Tehran.
