Republican Senator and Chairman of the Armed Services Committee in the US Senate, Roger Wicker, called on President Donald Trump to resume military operations against Iran, calling for “finishing what we started” instead of engaging in a diplomatic path to end the war.

In a strongly worded statement, Wicker criticized the current US administration’s directions, considering that Trump is receiving “bad advice” that is pushing him towards seeking an agreement with Tehran, as he put it.

The Republican senator stressed that the time has come “to enable the American armed forces to complete their mission,” stressing the need to “end the destruction of Iran’s conventional military capabilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz,” considering that this represents a “security and strategic necessity.”

“The president has always been inclined to finish the job he started in Iran, but he is receiving misleading advice to look for an agreement that is not worth the paper it was written on,” Wicker said.

He also warned that continuing to reach understandings with Tehran might send “signs of weakness,” adding: “We are going through a decisive moment that will determine President Trump’s legacy.”
