Recent satellite images revealed the positioning of an American Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, accompanied by three warship destroyers, in the northern Arabian Sea, in a move that reflects the continued American military reinforcements in the region amid escalating tension with Iran.

Images from the European satellite Sentinel-2, taken on Saturday, May 16, showed the American carrier moving in the waters north of the Arabian Sea and east of the Strait of Hormuz, with a clear trace of its movement appearing on the surface of the sea while the images were being taken.

The name of the carrier at the site was not definitively clear, in light of the continued deployment of the American aircraft carriers “Abraham Lincoln” and “George H. W. Bush” in the region as part of an ongoing state of military alert.

According to the data, the carrier was stationed about 270 kilometers southeast of the Iranian port of Chabahar, and about 215 kilometers east of the Omani coast near the city of Sur, in a strategic maritime area located between the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The pictures also showed the continued presence of two American destroyers of the “Arlie Burke” class inside the Gulf waters, as part of the American naval deployment that has been ongoing for months.

On March 31, the US Navy announced the departure of the “George Bush” strike group from the Norfolk base in Virginia, on the east coast of the United States.

The carrier group includes three Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, the USS Ross, the USS Donald Cook, and the USS Mason, in addition to an air wing that includes nine combat squadrons.

US naval reinforcements in the region also include other carriers, such as the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R. Ford, with more than 200 aircraft and about 15,000 US sailors and marines.

This military deployment coincides with escalating talk in Washington and Tel Aviv about the possibility of the collapse of the negotiating track with Iran and a return to the military option.

During the past few hours, US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of escalation if an agreement was not reached with Tehran, while he published an image generated by artificial intelligence on the “Truth Social” platform in which he appeared on board a military ship with Iranian ships behind him, accompanying it with the phrase: “It is the calm before the storm.”

In the same context, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper spoke about the continuation of American-Israeli coordination at the highest levels within the Israeli army and the Mossad, in anticipation of the possibility of resuming the confrontation with Iran.

Israeli estimates also indicate that Trump may resort to carrying out limited strikes against Iranian infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, instead of engaging in a large-scale war, in an attempt to increase pressure on Tehran without sliding into a comprehensive confrontation.
