US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz confirmed that the United States is studying the latest Iranian response to the proposal to end the war, stressing that Washington will not allow Tehran to “hold the global economy hostage.”
Waltz said, in an interview with the “Fox News Sunday” program, that the world “should not tolerate the Iranian regime that seeks to strangle the entire global economy,” accusing Iran of trying to threaten maritime navigation by “dropping sea mines and attacking ships.”
He added that Iran “is talking through its official media about seizing the submarine cables that transmit financial data, cloud computing information, and vital economic data to and from the Gulf region.”
Waltz’s statements come after Iranian media announced that Tehran had sent, through the Pakistani mediator, its response to the latest American proposal to end the war.
The American official indicated that the administration of US President Donald Trump will review the content of the Iranian response, stressing that “the red line is very clear,” which is to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon.
He said: “President Trump was clear that Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon, and will not be allowed to hold the world’s economies hostage.”
At the same time, Waltz stressed that Trump is still giving the diplomatic path a chance, despite Washington’s readiness to return to military operations if necessary, saying that the US President “gives diplomacy every possible chance before returning to hostilities.”
