Former Catalan referee Javier Estrada Fernandez revealed additional details about Real Madrid’s previous allegations, following the expansion of the scope of the investigation into the Negrera case.
Marca reported that Estrada, who is considered one of the most important information providers in this case, published parts of a memorandum submitted by Real Madrid in 2024.
In its memorandum, the Royal Club requested a deeper investigation into the issue of questionable payments made by Barcelona to Jose Maria Negrera, former vice president of the technical committee of referees in the Spanish League, over a period of twenty years.
According to what Estrada published, Real Madrid considered that the mechanism for monitoring and evaluating the performance of referees was unfair and flawed, and that the promotion and career of referees were directly dependent on the decisions of the officials of the technical committee for referees.
In another part of the memo, Real Madrid criticized the large sums that Barcelona paid to Negrera, stressing that there was no justification for these payments.
In its memorandum, the club described these events as “continued behavior of sporting corruption, with criminal roots, that can be attributed to all those under investigation.” (coora)
