A senior political source confirmed to “Nidaa Al Watan” that the call between US Secretary of State Mark Rubio and President Joseph Aoun took place at twelve o’clock yesterday afternoon, during which Rubio informed Aoun that US President Donald Trump would contact him at two o’clock in the afternoon Beirut time, and Aoun requested that Netanyahu not participate in the call, which was adhered to.
The source added, “At two o’clock in the afternoon, the call took place between Trump and Aoun as scheduled, during which Aoun presented the very serious steps taken by Lebanon in order to end the situation that has existed since November 8, 2023, stressing that Lebanon is taking it completely seriously to reach a final and sustainable solution that will end the current crisis.”
The source added, “In this context, Trump praised the efforts made by Aoun, speaking in decisive language regarding responding to Lebanon’s demand expressed by Aoun for a ceasefire before the start of the direct negotiation sessions, as he indicated that he would later communicate with Netanyahu to ask him for an immediate ceasefire, which would open the door to launching a negotiating path aimed at stabilizing stability.”
The source explained, “Aoun sensed from Trump’s overall speech a firm and clear tone regarding the necessity of a ceasefire, which reflects a serious American approach to push for a rapid calm and launch a solution path.”
