As an expression of protest against the transfer of the Barcelona-Villarreal match to Miami, the players froze in two Spanish League matches. One of the two matches ended in a narrow victory for Barcelona.
Matches in the Spanish Football League witnessed protests by players. In one of the matches, the referee blew the starting whistle, but the players remained in place for 15 seconds after touching the ball, before they resumed play normally.
The same scene was repeated in a match between Real Oviedo and Espanyol, where the players stopped moving for 20 seconds.
This move comes as a reaction to the Spanish League’s decision to move the Barcelona-Villarreal match to the American city of Miami, as part of the Spanish League “La Liga” competitions.
Barcelona was scheduled to meet Villarreal at the latter’s stadium on December 20, but the league decided to move the confrontation to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on the same date, with the announcement of the start of ticket sales the following week.
It is noteworthy that the match that witnessed the protest ended with Barcelona’s narrow victory, 2-1, as substitute Ronald Araujo scored the winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
