According to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rubio stressed “the distinguished and pioneering role played by the Egyptian President and the Egyptian state in supporting peace efforts in the region.”
The two ministers discussed developments in the situation in the Middle East, especially the efforts made to end the Gaza war, in addition to the ongoing coordination between Presidents Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Donald Trump in following up on the implementation of the agreement.
The two sides also touched on the arrangements for the upcoming Sharm El-Sheikh summit, which will be held under the joint chairmanship of Sisi and Trump, which Rubio described as a “unique historical event of its kind,” praising the Egyptian-American cooperation in its success.
For his part, Abdel-Aty stressed the great appreciation that the Egyptian President has for his American counterpart and for his support for the peace plan, noting that the implementation of the Gaza Agreement “instills hope in the souls of the peoples of the region, especially the Palestinian people,” and embodies the common values between the two countries in adopting peaceful solutions instead of military ones.
Abdel Ati concluded by emphasizing that settling the Palestinian issue according to the two-state solution is “the only way to achieve the desired stability, peace and security in the region.”
