The Political Bureau of the “Lebanese Democratic Movement” held its regular meeting, where it discussed the internal and regional situations.
The statement issued after the meeting praised the role of the Lebanese army and the military leadership’s report on the exclusivity of weapons and the cooperation of the people of the south, considering that “the only loophole remains the Israeli occupation and its repeated attacks that hinder the completion of the army’s tasks.”
The attendees proposed stopping the salaries of the deceased MPs and transferring them to the military institution, to enable the soldiers to receive a monthly salary of $1,500, or half of it, to support their families.
The movement also called for an end to offensive speech and insults through social media, stressing that this is “not befitting politicians or the country’s reputation,” and praised President Nabih Berri’s positions and his insistence on holding parliamentary elections on time.
Politically, the movement demanded the abolition of political sectarianism or addressing the injustice caused to the Orthodox community, and proposed adopting one or two electoral districts. Regionally, the movement criticized Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, considering that it: “is in the interest of Israel” and deprives the Palestinians of any real political role.
