The former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and member of the Expediency Discernment Council, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, issued a warning against any military movement towards Beirut or the southern suburbs, stressing that the two areas represent a “red line” for Tehran.
Rezaei said: “The suburb and Beirut are our red line, and no one has the right to move towards Beirut and the suburb, and therefore we monitor and control matters with the utmost seriousness.”
Rezaei’s words carry a direct warning message in light of the ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanon, and the raids that have targeted a number of southern towns over the past hours, including Arabsalim, Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, Baraashit, and Al-Mansouri, in addition to the surroundings of Dabsha, Ali Al-Taher, and Wadi Al-Saluki.
During previous stages of the confrontation, the southern suburb of Beirut witnessed Israeli raids targeting sites and figures linked to Hezbollah, making the possibility of expanding strikes towards the capital and its surroundings a constant focus of regional warnings and positions.
Rezaei is considered one of the most prominent Iranian military and political figures, as he commanded the Revolutionary Guard for many years, and is a member of the Expediency Discernment Council. He also constantly appears in files related to national security and Iran’s regional policy.
His statements come at a time when tensions are escalating between Iran, the United States, and Israel, coinciding with continued economic pressure on Tehran and mutual threats, while regional diplomatic moves continue to reduce escalation and prevent the expansion of the circle of confrontation.
It is not clear whether Rezaei’s position is linked to specific field data or falls within the framework of political warnings, but it reflects a clear raising of the ceiling of Iranian rhetoric regarding any movement targeting Beirut or the southern suburbs.
