Navigation traffic in the Strait of Hormuz declined on Wednesday, coinciding with the United States re-imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports and the escalation of attacks between the two countries in the Gulf.
Kepler platform data showed only 7 ships crossing, most of them via the Iranian route, compared to 13 ships the previous day. 4 empty ships entered the Gulf, including 3 small oil tankers and a grain ship.
The three ships that left the strait were carrying liquefied petroleum gas, coal, and fuel oil. On Tuesday, a Suez-Mex tanker loaded with one million barrels of Saudi oil left after turning off the transmitter and receiver.
Navigation in the corridor, which was crossed by about 20% of global oil and gas shipments before the war, has been disrupted since Iran announced its closure on Saturday evening.
