The Israeli army announced that it carried out an air strike in the northern Gaza Strip, which it said resulted in the assassination of Fadi Falah Ashour Dughmush, whom it described as a commander in the training department of the military wing of the Hamas movement.
The Israeli army said, in a statement, that the raid was carried out during the past hours, noting that during the years preceding the attack on October 7, 2023, Daghmush supervised multiple training exercises, with a special focus on training elite units affiliated with Hamas.
He added that Dughmush also participated in managing combat operations against Israeli forces inside the Gaza Strip. He also worked during the recent period to rebuild the movement’s military capabilities and push what he described as “additional terrorist plots.”
The statement indicated that the target constituted, according to Israeli assessment, a direct threat to the forces operating in the Gaza Strip, and therefore he was targeted in an air strike.
The Israeli army confirmed that its forces deployed in the Southern Command are continuing their operations “in accordance with the agreement,” stressing that they will continue to move to remove any threats they consider immediate.
The Israeli announcement comes in light of the continuation of military operations inside the Gaza Strip, coinciding with attempts to reach arrangements related to a ceasefire and the future administration of the Strip. During the past months, Israel has intensified operations targeting leaders and members of Palestinian factions, stressing that the goal is to weaken Hamas’ military capabilities and prevent its rebuilding, while the movement confirms its continued confrontation of Israeli operations inside the Gaza Strip.
