8 people, including 4 children, were injured in a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday night in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn in New York City, coinciding with American Independence Day celebrations.
ABC News, citing the New York Police, reported that the shooting occurred at approximately 10:37 p.m. local time, wounding two men, two women, and four children between the ages of 6 and 14 years.
The police explained that all the injured were taken to hospitals, noting that 7 of them were in stable condition, while the condition of a 21-year-old woman was described as critical.
She added that her officers found a firearm at the scene of the incident, but no suspects have been arrested yet, while investigations are still ongoing to uncover the circumstances of the shooting and its motives.
The incident came at a time when the United States was celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, amid gatherings and events in several cities across the country.
