Iran has officially linked the launch of final negotiations with the United States to the start of implementation of a number of basic provisions contained in the memorandum of understanding signed between US President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, which explains the postponement of the talks that were scheduled today in Switzerland.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei explained that the Switzerland meeting is no longer urgent after the signing of the memorandum of understanding electronically and officially, indicating that the transition to the negotiation stage of the final agreement remains conditional on the implementation of specific provisions and their continued implementation.
Baqaei stressed that consultations regarding the next stage are still continuing through mediators, provided that any new negotiating round will be announced when appropriate conditions exist for that.
He revealed that the terms that Tehran requires to be implemented include a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, in addition to lifting the US naval blockade on Iranian ports within a period of 30 days, and ensuring freedom of commercial navigation to and from Iran.
The conditions also include allowing the export of Iranian oil and related services, in addition to providing full access to Iranian funds and assets frozen abroad.
Regarding the nuclear program file, Baghaei indicated that allowing the International Atomic Energy Agency to enter some of the facilities that were subjected to attacks, including the Bushehr facility, will remain linked to the results of the upcoming negotiations.
These positions come at a time when Lebanon witnessed a widespread military escalation during the past hours, with the continued Israeli raids on areas in the south and the Bekaa, which reinforced the impression that the Lebanese front has become one of the main keys in the path of American-Iranian understanding.
The Iranian position reflects Tehran’s commitment to obtaining practical steps before moving to the final agreement stage, which indicates that the success of the upcoming negotiations will be largely linked to the level of commitment to implementing the provisions that Iran considers a priority at the current stage.
