Expectations indicate a harvest of between 2.3 and 2.5 million tons this year, compared to about 900 thousand tons last year, with the three aforementioned governorates expected to contribute about 1.35 million tons. Despite this improvement, Syria will still need imports to cover its annual consumption of about 4 million tons, especially with the increasing demand following the return of large numbers of Syrians and displaced people following recent political developments.
In terms of prices, the price of a ton of durum wheat was set at 46,000 new Syrian pounds (about 380 dollars), with an incentive bonus granted by President Ahmed Al-Sharaa worth 9,000 new liras (about 70 dollars) per ton, amid objections from some farmers to the purchasing mechanisms and prices compared to the costs.
