Liverpool had sold Nunez to Al Hilal before the start of the 2025-2026 season for about 46 million pounds sterling.
During his experience with the Saudi team, the Uruguayan striker scored 9 goals in 24 matches, but his status within the team witnessed a decline in recent months, especially after the arrival of French star Karim Benzema.
According to journalist Juan Pablo Romero, Nunez’s return to the Reds has become almost decided, and will be officially announced after the end of the World Cup.
Romero explained, during a live broadcast on the YouTube platform, that the player has already ended his career with Al Hilal.
He explained: “His return will not be confirmed in the coming days, as the player asked to focus on the Uruguayan national team’s journey in the World Cup.”
If the deal is completed, Nunez may constitute an important addition to Liverpool’s attacking line, and provide competition for striker Alexander Isak, pending the recovery of Hugo Equitiki from the serious knee injury he suffered.
