The Iranian “Fars” agency reported that the missile strike carried out by Iran as part of Operation “Victory” against the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel led to the 157th Squadron of the Israeli Air Force being taken out of service, describing it as one of the most secret and sensitive Israeli military units.
The agency said that Squadron 157 is stationed at the Ramat David base, and is considered one of the units specialized in electronic warfare and operating advanced technological systems and drones, and plays a pivotal role in supporting Israeli military and intelligence operations.
She added that the squadron undertakes the tasks of electronic jamming, confronting cyber threats, and disrupting adversaries’ communications, radar, and navigation systems, in addition to carrying out reconnaissance operations, gathering intelligence information, and supporting ground forces and special operations.
According to “Fares,” the Iranian strike that targeted the base a few days ago hit one of the squadron’s facilities, disrupting its operational capabilities and putting it out of service.
The agency indicated that the Ramat David base also includes a number of other air squadrons, including the 101, 105, 109, and 160 squadrons, and is considered one of the most important Israeli Air Force bases in the northern region.
This announcement comes after the Israeli army confirmed, last Wednesday, that the Ramat David base was damaged as a result of the Iranian missile bombardment, without revealing additional details regarding the extent of the losses or the nature of the targets that were hit inside the base.
The Ramat David base gains special strategic importance due to its location in northern Israel, as it constitutes a major center for air operations related to the northern front, especially those related to Lebanon and Syria.
These developments fall within the broad military confrontation that the region has witnessed over the past months, which included an exchange of strikes between Iran and Israel and the targeting of military bases and installations in more than one arena.
While Iranian media confirms that the strike achieved specific goals and affected Israel’s military capabilities, there has not yet been any official Israeli confirmation regarding the 157th Squadron being out of service or the extent of the damage it sustained.
