In a move with remarkable diplomatic dimensions, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei received a message from Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, conveyed by Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his visit to Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said on Monday, “Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei received the message of the Pakistani Prime Minister,” explaining that Naqvi’s visit came within the framework of Islamabad’s role as a mediator in the course of the negotiations.
Baghaei added that Pakistan “takes this role seriously,” noting that the Pakistani minister carried an official letter from Shahbaz Sharif and was delivered to the Iranian leadership.
Yesterday, Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that he had received the message during his meeting with Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
For his part, Naqvi said during a press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Iskander Momeni, that he was carrying an “important and sensitive” message addressed to Mojtaba Khamenei, without revealing its content.
