Video: Trump is out of control...an unexpected end to a television interview

US President Donald Trump’s television interview with “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker on NBC News witnessed intense tension that ended with his sudden withdrawal from the dialogue, after exchanging criticism and accusations regarding controversial political and electoral files.

During the interview, which was conducted in Wisconsin, the discussion heated up between Trump and Welker about his repeated allegations of fraud in the US elections, and the vote-counting mechanism in California, in addition to a proposed fund project worth $1.8 billion to compensate people who Republicans say were targeted as a result of what they describe as the “politicization” of state institutions during the administration of former President Joe Biden.

Welker asked Trump whether his administration had backed away from the fund project after statements by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said that the administration would not move forward with its implementation.

Trump responded in defense of the project, considering that many people were harmed by policies and officials in the Biden administration, stressing that he still supports the idea of establishing the fund, but at the same time he acknowledged that its implementation requires official approvals.

As questions continued about the file, Trump expanded his attack to include American media and officials in the Biden administration, accusing them of destroying people’s lives and targeting political opponents.

When Welker pointed out that there was no evidence to support some of the allegations he was making, Trump strongly rejected this, stressing that there was “a lot of evidence,” before reaffirming his position that the 2020 elections were marred by irregularities and fraud.

He also criticized the method of counting votes in California, considering that the delay in adopting the official results raises doubts, and attacked a number of American media institutions, including NBC, CNN, ABC, and CBS, describing them as biased and corrupt.

At the height of the tension, Trump told the broadcaster: “You are a biased and corrupt network,” before announcing the end of the interview, saying: “Let us finish the matter because I have had enough.”

Welker tried to persuade him to continue the dialogue, noting that the network had traveled specifically to conduct the interview, but Trump confirmed that he had given her enough time, ending the interview abruptly in front of the viewers.

This incident comes at a time when Trump continues to engage in repeated political and media battles with a number of American press organizations, confrontations that have formed one of the prominent features of his political career over the past years.

The incident also reflects the continued sharp division in the United States regarding the election files, the role of the media, and the relationship of government institutions to the political conflict, which are issues that are still at the forefront of the American scene as the upcoming political elections approach.
