The Egyptian national team lost to its Brazilian counterpart, 2-1, in the friendly match that brought them together at Huntington Bank Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, in the last test for the two teams before the start of the 2026 World Cup.

Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring early for Brazil, before Mustafa Abdel Raouf “Zico” succeeded in equalizing for Egypt in the 11th minute, taking advantage of an error in passing the ball from Marquinhos, to shoot it accurately past Alisson Becker.

The Egyptian national team owes a lot to its goalkeeper, Mostafa Schubert, who excelled in stopping a number of dangerous chances, especially in the first half, in the face of attempts by Vinicius Junior, Rafinha, and Igor Thiago.

Egypt entered the match quickly, after Ahmed Fattouh sent a dangerous cross in the seventh minute that passed in front of the goal without follow-up, before Brazil took advantage of a defensive error and advanced through Guimarães.

In the 17th minute, Brazilian coach Carlo Ancelotti was forced to make an early substitution, introducing Danilo instead of Wesley due to injury.

At the beginning of the second half, Hossam Hassan brought on Mohamed Salah instead of Haitham Hassan, but Brazil began with clear offensive pressure, which resulted in the second goal in the 52nd minute through Endrick, after a cross from Rafinha.

The Egyptian team tried to recover the result, and Salah had an opportunity in the 59th minute after a dribble and a shot from the edge of the penalty area, but the defense sent the ball away to a corner.

With the passage of time, the Egyptian team’s presence improved and regained a greater amount of possession, but it clashed with the cohesion of the Brazilian defense, while Ahmed Mostafa “Zizou”’s shot in stoppage time went past the post.

Egypt will begin its World Cup campaign against Belgium on June 15, before meeting New Zealand and Iran in Group Seven.

As for Brazil, it begins its journey in Group C against Morocco, then meets Haiti and Scotland.
