Economic data showed that sales of used electric cars in Britain rose to a new record level during the first quarter of this year.

The Association of British Motor Manufacturers and Traders stated that the sale of 86.9 thousand used electric cars was recorded during the first three months of this year, an increase of 32% over the same period last year. Increase in production and sales of new energy vehicles in China
The British news agency (PA Media) indicated that the share of electric cars in the British car market has reached 4.3%, which is a record high.

The Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Traders said that these numbers are the result of increased options available to consumers, price reductions and government incentives to purchase new electric cars, according to what was reported by the German News Agency (DPA).

At the same time, the used car market in Britain witnessed clear stability during the first quarter of this year, with sales declining by only 0.2% to only about 2.16 million cars.

Sales of used gasoline-powered cars declined during the first quarter by 0.6% annually to about 1.15 million cars, while sales of diesel-powered cars declined by 6.7% to about 629.9 thousand cars.

The association’s CEO, Mike Howes, said: “The used car market in Britain remained stable during the first quarter, as a result of weak sales in March compared to its strong performance in the same month of 2025. The good news is the record demand for used electric cars, with the growth of options available from manufacturers that flow into the used car market.”

He added, “The rise in fuel prices due to the conflict in Iran may have led to a greater increase in demand, but to maintain this momentum, all available financial and political tools must be used to ensure the continued good condition of the zero-emission car market, which can then flow into the used car market.”
