This number was stated by Greg Brockman, co-founder of Open AI, during his testimony before the court examining the lawsuit filed by the American billionaire Elon Musk, one of the founders, against the company.
Musk claims that Brockman and CEO Sam Altman transformed the company from a non-profit organization to a for-profit entity, which he considers an “effective takeover” of a charitable organization, while Open AI categorically denies these accusations.
The spending estimate, which was not previously disclosed, indicates the amount of investment required to build and operate artificial intelligence systems, even as the technology remains in its early stages. OpenAI also has plans to invest more than a trillion dollars in artificial intelligence infrastructure over the coming years.
It is noteworthy that OpenAI was founded to advance artificial intelligence for the benefit of “all of humanity.”
Under Altman and Brockman, most of the company’s value is now in its for-profit arm, Musk says.
On the other hand, OpenAI confirms that the bulk of its focus is still in the non-profit segment, and that establishing a commercial entity was necessary to finance billions of dollars in investments.
During yesterday’s court hearing, Musk’s lawyer accused Brockman of greed, citing a diary entry in which he appeared to be thinking about building a billion-dollar fortune.
Brockman said Musk sought control of OpenAI’s for-profit arm, claiming he needed $80 billion to fund plans to build a city on Mars. (Arm News)
