Google is preparing to launch a new update for car systems equipped with its “Google built-in” system, as its new smart assistant, “Gemini,” will replace the current traditional assistant, Google Assistant, with the aim of providing a more advanced mechanism for voice interaction inside cars.
This update comes as an extension of Google’s pledge since the launch of the platform in 2020; At the time, it confirmed that cars would improve over time through continuous software updates, without the need to change the car itself.
“Gemini” provides an interaction style that is closer to natural conversation, rather than relying on specific commands as is the case with traditional assistance tools. The driver can ask for suggestions for nearby restaurants, or play music playlists, without having to use precise, fixed phrases.
The assistant also allows you to summarize and respond to text messages, display instant updates about the trip, and answer questions about the car itself. In electric cars, the assistant can display information such as battery level and driving status.
General Motors recently announced that “Gemini” will reach about 4 million cars from 2022 models and beyond, from its brands such as Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC.
Google did not link the update to this company only, indicating that support will include a wider range of manufacturers.
The option to upgrade to “Gemini” will appear for eligible users who are signed in to their Google accounts inside the car. The company also plans to provide access to user data within applications such as Gmail, Calendar and Google Home, to improve the car’s integration with the user’s digital system.
