Hani: Interest in agriculture is the basis for achieving food self-sufficiency in the country

While signing agricultural agreements, Hani stated that the Akkar region is considered a pivotal pillar for achieving food security in Lebanon, especially after about 22% of agricultural land and agricultural production were damaged as a result of the recent war.

Hani praised the steadfastness of the southern farmers, and pointed out that Akkar had already begun producing potatoes at the beginning of April, and it is expected that the need of the local market will be gradually met thanks to the abundant production resulting from sufficient rainfall.

He also stated that the Ministry gives preference to meeting local consumption while at the same time working to find foreign markets to export the surplus, given the high quality of the Lebanese product.

The Minister concluded his speech by emphasizing work to overcome the crisis caused by damage to supply chains and infrastructure, by linking farmers directly to markets and providing alternative marketing channels that guarantee fair prices for producers and market stability in light of these exceptional circumstances.
